Tiny Plant, Huge Impact
Did you know that plants can eat bugs? Shown here eating a fly inside its leaves, this Venus flytrap plant is on the endangered list because it grows in very few places. Here in the Carolinas, it is making a return by growing in the Lewis Bay Heritage Preserve following after the North Myrtle Beach wildfires. It thrives because of the swampy environment and because occasional fires help balance nature. For more information, www.dnr.sc.gov/managed/heritage/lewisbay/description.html.
