Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! While most people perceive the winter months as being a slow time of year for the resort, that is definitely not the case at the Avista. All of our departments are hard at work preparing the resort for the upcoming year. We would like to thank everyone for filling out the comment cards as their comments and suggestions are very valuable to us. We are proud to say that our scores having been improving every quarter and in fact, the survey company has just informed us "Some of the scores are getting hard to beat!" We are working hard to make sure that not only do we maintain our high standards but that we far exceed them in the year to come!
Hope to see you soon,
The Avista Staff

Hotel News
The Rickey Godfrey Band rocked the Avista on New Year's Eve at the 1st Annual New Year's Eve party. With the Avalon Ballroom full to capacity, guests enjoyed a gourmet buffet spread, parties favors and were able to watch the ball drop on our 6ft. projection screen. We received such wonderful input; we are already planning the bash for next year!
Super Bowl Party
After 17 weeks of blood, sweat and tears, the NFL season will come to a close on February 4th with Super Bowl XLI. Whether your team made it to the big game or not, you can enjoy the game live from Dolphin Stadium on our 6ft. movie projection screen in the Tree Top Lounge. There will be free appetizers and great happy hour prices on all drinks!

Groups
We would like to recognize the following groups who have stayed at or held functions at the Avista over the past month: Fairfield Resort HOA Meeting, Sassy Ladies Travel Club, Brisbon Family Reunion, Bancorp South (MS), Calvary Baptist Church, The Sun News, Faith Assembly of God, Sturzenbecker Construction, Kirk Tours, ACR Supply Company, CSA Awards Banquet, Women's Wellness Center, Lewisville High School Reunion, Alpha Pi Chi Reunion, SC Highway Patrol, Penick Village, Coastal Network Cooperative, Acosta Mechanical Company, Interior Distributors, Idaho Timber, Shootout By The Sea Basketball Tournament, Hoffman Corporation and Faith Mission Holiness Church. Whew…
What's New?
The Sports Zone Center in Little River, which opened in fall of 2006, was a much needed addition to the Grand Strand. It has the areas only state of the art indoor sports facility as well as an arcade featuring batting cages, a baseball/softball academy, 2 family friendly restaurants and much more. If you would like more information, visit their website at www.sportszonecenter.com. Be sure to check out the Parent's Night Out that is offered on Friday nights at Sports Zone. It's a great deal!
Snowbird Update
It hardly feels like winter at the beach as the temperatures have been holding steady in the mid-60's to lower 70's all month, and the Avista Snowbirds could not be happier. It has been perfect weather for their favorite pastimes of playing golf, shopping and going for long strolls on the beach. This has definitely been to their advantage as most of the attractions are closed in the month of January. Never fear, those of you who are arriving in February will be here just in time for the re-openings of the theaters so be ready for a couple of Snowbird Show Outings!
Let the shows begin!
After a month of being closed, the area shows will be back with full force the first week of February. With a month "off" to retool, all are promising newer, bigger, better shows! Dixie Stampede is being very secretive about the much-needed changes to their show, as it has not been reworked in roughly 3 years. Alabama is advertising new singers, dancers and scenery. Don't forget, you can book your tickets through the Avista, contact the reservations department at 1-800-968-8986 for more details!
Weddings
Congratulations and best wishes to the following couple on their recent marriage:

Golf
|
|
The Golf Department is gearing up for a busy spring golf season! The phones have been ringing like crazy and tee times are already getting limited on most of the premium courses, so book early or you may end up at the Mutiny Bay Miniature Golf Course instead of Oyster Bay! If you were a fan of the dangerously tight fairways at Eastport Golf Course, we are sad to report that they have closed. This is just another sad fatality for the Grand Strand Golf community. On a brighter note, don't forget about the 48 Hour Specials we offer for Tidewater, Grande Dunes, Meadowlands, Farmstead and Myrtlewood! The Front Desk or Concierge will be happy to assist you in making tee times at any of those courses at a great rate!
Grande Daddy 3 Night or 5 Night Special
EXPLORE THE CHANGING ELEVATIONS ON Grande Dunes and Tidewater...experience a bit of history on Pine Lakes, Myrtle Beach's oldest course...challenge your game at Myrtlewood's Palmetto and Pinehills courses...at Meadowlands, revisit a bygone era when the land was tresured and preserved...or try Farmstead which crosses into North Carolina in mid-hole.
Grande Daddy 3 Night Special:
Play one round at either Tidewater or Grande Dunes and choose any two of the remaing courses. Prices include green fees, carts, lodging and breakfast.
Grande Daddy 5 Night Special:
Play one round at Tidewater and Grande Dunes plus three rounds at any of the remaining courses. Prices include green fees, carts, lodging and breakfast.

Here's what our guests are saying about us...
I would like to say this is my second stay at the property and both were great - I have recommended this property to others and will be back to visit again soon. The personnel were wonderful and always friendly - customer service is what it's all about, this combined with beautiful facilities to meet ones needs are definitely a winner with all. Terri Wheeler, Charlotte NC
My husband and I will be back next for our anniversary. We were so pleased on how all the staff was very kind to us. This will be our anniversary spot.
Annette Smothers, Woodlawn MD
Excellent experience! Desk clerks are number one!! Wish I lived there!! Howard Caudle, Burlington NC
The bell staff was especially helpful. I had a slow leak in a tire and twice they filled it for me. One time, Caundray carried the compressor to the parking garage to fill the tire. I really appreciated how helpful everyone was during our stay. Mark Benjamin, Rochester NY
My husband and I were completely thrilled with the property and the service we received. Some other properties need to learn from you. Kathy Sharp, Axton VA
